Abstract
With the rise of the new virus, COVID-19, the WHO presented detachment and social isolation as a sanitary measure to fight the pandemic, which caused worsening conditions and symptoms related to the mental health in part of the population. Thus, this work aims to present a theoretical basis that elucidates the psychological and psychophysiological effects of isolation and social distance in people, as well as possible measures to mitigate the negative impacts caused by it. To this end, a bibliographic survey of articles addressing the effects of social isolation related or not to a pandemic was carried out in different databases. The analyzed literature showed that social isolation is a potential cause of stress and anxiety, which can gradually increase and show a risk to physical and mental health, and it can be highlighted that the pandemic state and related alarming news have a potentializing effect on these symptoms.
