Abstract

O rdinary P o rtland cement is rec o gnized as a maj o r c o nstructi o n material thr o ugh o ut the w o rld .Industrial wastes, such as blast furnace slag, fly ash and silica fume are being used as supplementary cement replacement materials. Currently, there has been an attempt t o utilize the large am o unt o f bagasse ash, the residue fr o m an in - line sugar industry and the bagasse - bi o mass fuel in electric generati o n industry . When this waste is burned under c o ntr o lled c o nditi o ns, it als o gives ash having am o rph o us silica, which has p o zz o lanic pr o perties. A few studies have been carried o ut o n the ashes o btained directly fr o m the industries t o study p o zz o lanic activity and their suitability as binders, partially replacing cement . Theref o re it is p o ssible t o use bagasse ash (SCBA) as cement replacement material t o impr o ve quality and reduce the c o st o f c o nstructi o n materials. This paper presents the current status and past studies in the area o f SCBA.
