Abstract
The present study used Event - Related Potentials (ERPs) to analyse ambiguity in semantic integration for sentence - picture matching task. This task includes two sub - processes: Spatial Indexing and the assignment of spatial relations between the located object and the reference object. Based on the shown stimuli, participants were divided into two groups (processing either intrinsic reference frame or relative reference frame). Result showed th e presence of N400 in semantic integration. Easiness in spatial indexing was indicated from increased amplitude of P300 while cognitive cost incurred by each reference frame on spatial language processing was inferred by the reduction in amplitude of N4. P articipants showed greater mental effort when cognitive processing was done using intrinsic reference frame.
