Abstract

The first few years of life have a crucial role in development and provide a time window when a supportive and stimulating environment can be most effective, and conversely when adverse factors can cause more pervasive damage. Developmental assessment and follow-up allow early detection of potential delays and early intervention. In spite of the importance of early recognition, parents and physicians may overlook mild or moderate delays in infancy and early childhood. Only 20-30% of developmental delays are diagnosed before school age [1]. Therefore developmental screening with standardized methods is recommended as part of routine follow-up of young children [2].
