Abstract
Impairments of folate metabolism underlie various diseases, including cardiovascular diseases. In cardiovascular pathology homocysteine ? a folate cycle metabolite ? plays an important role. High concentrations of homocysteine and its metabolites are considered to be toxic to vessel walls. Homocysteine utilization failure leads to increase of its blood concentration and causes toxicity to manifest itself (in the form of coronary heart disease (CHD), occlusive artery diseases, deep vein thrombosis, etc.). The aim of the study was to determine the pattern of SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) genotype distribution of folic acid cycle (MTHFR 677С>Т, MTR 2756 A>G, MTRR 66 A>G). The study was conducted at University Hospital of Saint-Petersburg State University. As a result, we found that polymorphic allele of 677T MTHFR gene is encountered distinctively more often among the cardiologic patients and comprises 37,5%, and in control group 18,5% (p=0,004, OR=2,65 (1,34 ? 5,23)
