Abstract
Nigeria is among one of the major oil exporting countries in the world and most of this oil is been exploited in the continental shelf (Niger delta region). Exploration and exploitation of oil and gas has brought intensive negative effects on the environment. This article discussed ecological risks as a result of oil and gas exploration in the continental shelf (Niger Delta region) of Nigeria and also evaluates ecological risk of potential fire outburst during exploration of oil and gas fields.
