Abstract
Language as the social phenomenon and as the major means of communication has a number of functions in life of people. The language functions are: communicative, nominative, function of expression of emotions, feelings, experiences and moods, instrumental function, phatic, etc. Usually the basic function is communicative function, and all the others are considered as subordinate to it. These functions of language in the process of communication are often combined with each other as communication quite often demands expression of not only thought, but also emotions, and will.
