Abstract
The article considers the problem of infl uence of antiquity on the example of the art of war of Crimean Taurica in the Middle Ages. The comparative analysis of the methods of warfare of the Byzantine Empire and its periphery was conducted by using of archaeological material and writing sources. There are given examples of individual methods of building of the fortifi cations, which successfully existed in modern Crimea.
