Abstract
The article elucidates the negative impact of the First World War on the development of population in Bessarabia using the example of the Nisporeni village. As a result of the urgent measures taken by the local Romanian authorities, the spread of contagious diseases was stopped. The birth rate has increased, the mortality rate dropped and population growth became positive.
