Abstract
This article is devoted to the problems of the historical images and symbol in creation of T. Shevchenko. A characteristic feature of his work of this period can be called revolutionary apparent openness. From the standpoint of national rebel, a fighter for freedom and justice Shevchenko considers the historical fate of Ukraine. Well versed in the country's history, backed Christian moral and ethical values, he fills his pieces with imagery and symbolism. For early works were characterized by positive thinker historical images that were identified with the past grandeur and heroism of Ukraine. In the work we have studied period there is a gradual transition to the negative description of images and symbols, such as might dig, death, desolation. Most of all, it was a disappointment is connected with the author in a realistic world and futile struggle against autocracy. Nevertheless, the work of Ukrainian poet had a significant impact on the Ukrainian national awakening, struggle and their independence and self-determination. Certainly, his work was of decisive importance for the formation of the Ukrainian nation.
