Abstract
The article is dedicated to the methodological analysis of the investigation of medical students' cognitive activity in the process of mastering a foreign language, it is a complicated and multifold pedagogical problem. The author analyzes methodological guiding lines of subject-active approachtoforming cognitive activity. Definitions of key concepts are given: subject, activity – interpretation of which makes it possible to understand the essence of students' cognitive activity. The leading role of individualprofessional development of future specialists is shown in the article. Special attention is given to the question of achievement of individual, professional actualization. The author bases this research on the personal experience of teaching the English language at the Department of foreign languages at Ryazan state medical university named for academician I.P. Pavlov.
