Abstract
Two families of Indus-2 focusing quadrupole magnets are of distinctive design (Open-type) where bottom and top poles are not connected with magnetic steel. This design induces engineering complexity relating to mechanical stability that critically controls the magnetic centre and field quality of quadrupole magnets. These quadrupoles are placed adjacent to main dipole magnets for easily taking out the emerging synchrotron beam lines. To satisfy stringent magnetic field requirements, the mechanical design of magnets is optimized with coupled field simulations. Initially, two prototype magnets are tested and subsequently developed 32 series magnets. The development of magnets with measurement results is discussed.
