Abstract
Hyperekplexia is uncommon. The exact prevalence is not known. It has been reported in 70 families world wide. Affected persons present with exaggerated startle and generalised stiffening of the body from the neonatal period. They show a good response to clonazepam. Diagnosis remains largely clinical. It is one of the treatable neurogenetic conditions.
