Abstract

Technology of building information modeling (BIM) is being gradually implemented into the Russian construction industry. But such problems as low development level of material and technical base which doesn't correspond to new technologies is a serious obstacle to make a full use of BIM. For example, there is no universal BIM element database including all materials, details and structures, which have their own BIM models and can be used to form the united BIM model of the construction project. The creation of BIM element database of construction elements must be discussed at the state level as it's only the government that is able to unify all construction projects and make them more accessible for analysis, monitoring and sharing. European countries and USA have gained considerable experience in creation of similar systems. Since 2003, such western construction associations as «buildingSMART», «NBIMS», «NSB», «Lexicon» have worked to improve BIM technology with construction elements uniform exchange standard presented in IFC format. On the one hand, it's impossible just to copy and completely apply foreign systems and standards in the conditions of Russian construction industry. But on the other hand, the creation of absolutely new BIM element database fulfilled with items of all materials, details and structures is also a great challenge. Because of that, the main idea of the paper is to consider such regulatory and reference information (RRI) as state itemized cost estimate standards (GESN) and territorial estimate norms (TSN) corresponding to foreign standards OmniClass and UniFormat, which may be a basis for creation of Russian BIM element database. But in order to fit into the world community competently it's necessary to do some certain work on linking and organizational arrangements for making these systems compatible. It means that the information exchange system must be working. Therefore, the result of the paper is to be a universal information structure that would be fully complied with international data exchange system as well as it would be able to provide participants of the construction project with the information about integrated construction elements at all life cycle stages of building/structure which are design, construction and exploitation.
