Abstract
Today, manufacturing is mainly concerned with effective utilization of resources and the transformation of the same into desired output, with minimisation of harmful wastes. In recent decades, the expansion in economic activity has been accompanied by growing concerns on climate change, energy security and scarcity of natural resources. As there is continuous obligation to develop Green manufacturing processes, it is very important to be socially responsible and conform to the increasing and changing regulatory frame work. Environmental issues are rapidly emerging as one of the most important issues in strategic manufacturing decisions. Future international manufacturing is no longer going to be the competition of capital, resources and labour power but the competition of green technology. It is then that energy saving and emission reduction will become the dominant concern in manufacturing technology. In view of this future emphasis on green and sustainable manufacturing technologies, the objective of this paper is to develop relationship among various parameters influencing the effective implementation of Green Manufacturing. This paper is also useful in understanding the correlative influence of these parameters on each other and identifying those parameters which are driven by the other parameters. The interpretive structural modelling (ISM) method has been used to explain the correlative relationship among these parameters. Green manufacturing parameters have been categorised based on their driving power and dependence power. The aim behind this categorisation is to analyse the driving and dependence power of these parameters
