Abstract

The death of the Russian Empire was not accidental. Its disintegration was initiated both by an exter- nal force and by internal strife in the state and the Romanov family itself. An endless series of betrayals overtook His Imperial Majesty Nicholas II at the most difficult moment of Russian history. It's been exactly 100 years since that time. 1917 predetermined the fate of Russia for many, many years. Should one be pleased or mourn? The answer remains subjective. Complex calculations are not needed to assess the global nature of those events. However, the moment came when the Emperor was left alone with the revolution. The most loyal and close as- sociates, the Russian Orthodox Church, and most significantly, the family, were one step behind. It was not Nicholas II who stepped forward, but they stepped back. This article gives a detailed analysis of the relations of the House of the Romanovs on the eve of the revolution of 1917. The main part of the article is devoted to the family, as it is impossible to avoid this betrayal. The family has always been an outlet for Nicholas II. He could not imagine his life without his wife and children. He was rich in relatives not only in the Russian Empire, but also abroad. The article most reliably states the circumstances under which the last generation of the House of Romanovs left their tutor, as well as information about the existed imperial opposition
