Abstract
The opening of the International Center for Archaeological Research with the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan was held in Bolgar on 22 May, 2013. This important event took place in the framework of the integrated project “Cultural heritage of Tatarstan: the ancient town of Bolgar and the island-fortress of Sviyazhsk,” in force since 2010. The aim of the project is to ensure the conservation and further research of these remarkable monuments of history and culture of world importance. The main objective of the Center is to ensure the international organization level of scientific research by the Bolgar archaeological expedition and to create maximum work facilities for Russian and foreign experts. The building of the Center is equipped with laboratories in various fields for restoration and further study of materials.
