Abstract
Aim: To find a dose of aqueous extract of Trigonellafoenum-graecumseed powder effective to reduce hyperglycemia . A need to find a new effective drug to combat diabetes which is assuming an epidemic proportion prompted us this study. Materials and methods: Male albino Wistar rats were procured and diabetes was induced by a single dose intraperitoneal injection of120 mg/kg b.wAlloxan monohydrate. The anti-diabetic effect of two different doses (400 and 800 mg/kgb.w) of the fenugreek seed extract was evaluated in this study. Various biochemical values were analyzed these following treatments with fenugreek seed extract. Results and conclusion: The drug effect was evaluated by microscopic examination of the pancreas which showed a restoration of normal architecture following treatment with 800 mg/kg of fenugreek. The results of the study showed that fenugreek given in a dose of 800 mg/kg is a good effective method of controlling diabetes.
