Abstract
The article investigates different interpretations and definitions of the concept of strategic analysis aiming at identifying the ways of revealing its components and peculiarities. Based on the critical analysis of economic literature, the author singles eight approaches to interpretation of the essence of strategic analysis and indicates that strategic analysis is independent direction of analytical research, that occupies a leading place on each of the stages of strategic management an enterprise and envisages rich incontent description of economic subject, exposure of features, tendencies, possible and impossible directions of his development for the sake of timely and adequate reaction on changes in the environment of his functioning and forming competitive edges that in a longterm prospect will provide increase of business cost. According to the modern understanding of strategic analysis, its main signs are singled out, which presuppose ensuring of quick response of the enterprise to the changes of the external environment with the help of developed strategic methods and models, strategic thinking of the employees of an economic entity aimed at achieving its development strategy.
