Abstract
The results of the international scientific congress, which was held in Barnaul on the basis of Altai State University (September, 2012) in the framework of the program “Idel-Altai: the origins of the Eurasian civilization,” are presented in the article. The program is aimed at an interdisciplinary study of the interaction and development of the cultures of peoples, who had inhabited the Eurasian steppes, and their neighbors. The congress was attended by archaeologists from nine countries. The principal topics of the conference included characteristics of the steppe societies according to physical and cultural anthropology data; problems of formation of cultural societies in the pre-Turkic and Turkic period; ethno-cultural interactions between the peoples who had inhabited the steppes and their neighbors in the Middle Ages; medieval warfare of the steppe Eurasia; urban culture and trade; problems of the history of the Eurasian nomads in the context of the world culture.
