Abstract

The most mature examples of rhetoric Turkish literature which teaches beautiful and effective ways of speaking are seen after the Tanzimat. Together with the Tanzimat, which is revolutionary in both social and cultural sense, in the newly opened schools, Turkish books are started to be read instead of Arabic books. The traces of this new understanding in literature are also seen in great measure and understanding of old rhetoric begins to change. As it is in many fields of literature in general, Western writers are followed in the rhetoric. That's way, Süleyman Pasha, a Turkish philosopher who took the first step on this path Mebâni'l-İnşâ. Then Münif Paşa tries to apply his Western rhetoric to the theory of Turkish literature with his work İlm-i Belâgat-La Rhétorique. Among the works on the theory of Turkish literature in this article, the works of Ilm İlm-i Belâgat-La Rhétorique and Mebâni'l-İnşâ will be compared because it is the first works from western sources, similar and different aspects of these two books which are products of almost the same period will be discussed. Together with the classifications of the subjects, the content, the sample texts and similar comparisons to be made, it will be tried to show how much the literary mentality has changed in Turkish Literature.
