Abstract
The paper deals the quantitative composition of the lexical-semantic group «death» by B.D. Grinchenko's «Dictionary of Ukrainian Language», a number of clarifications is proposed, regarding to the functional difference of the units of this lexical-semantic group in the period of the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. The complex cases of the development of semantics are explained by referring to the method of typological parallels and the method of explanatory transformation of semantics. The results of the observations are verified by using etymological studies for the research of historical dialectal lexicology.
