Abstract
. In Russia special attention is paid to a problem of activization of innovative activity in recent years. Thanks to this, the country has significantly improved its position in the world ranking compiled for the Global Innovation Index. The article analyzes the current state of innovative activity of the strategic branch of the economy that ensures food security of the country – the food industry. The dynamics of the level of innovation activity of enterprises in the industry and its determinants have been studied. The types of innovations implemented, as well as the cooperative links used in their development, are considered. The structure of sources of financing of innovative activity is presented. The factors preventing the active in- troduction of innovations in the food industry of Russia are revealed. Ways of improvement of innovative activity are determined
