Abstract
ABSTRACT The Manohar Lal Sharma case turned out to be a landmark judgment, and its repercussionsleft an indelible mark in the political domain. Having dominated the news headlines for several months at a stretch, it became popularly known as the ‘Coalgate scam'. This article will attempt to analyse the case from a legal perspective, by looking at the judgment in the context of mining laws within the country.
