Abstract
The results of developing methods and studying gas-kinetic characteristics of coal seams are presented. It is proved that the most acceptable model of the state of methane in coal is the idea of the existence of solid carbon methane solutions. The gas content of coal blocks in the contour part of the mine depends on the operating stresses and decreases proportionally as they decrease, forming a free gas pressure in the filter cracks and activating surface sorption. The data on the gas content of the near-bed part of the reservoir, the specific energy and initial power of gas evolution from gas-bearing coal samples, the mechanism and significance of the effect of the sorption properties of coal on the occurrence of dynamic gas manifestations are given.
