Abstract

The present study deals with the evaluation of the levels of development in agriculture, infrastructural facilities and overall socio-economic fields by constructing the composite index of development at a community development block level in the Chhattisgarh state. The agricultural development and infrastructural development were found to be positively associated with the socio-economic development in almost all the districts in Chhattisgarh state. Wide disparities in the level of development among the different districts were observed. In order to reduce the disparities in the development among different districts, potential target of various important development indicators was estimated for low developed districts. These districts required improvement in various dimensions of different indicators for enhancing the level of development. With respect to the overall development of the agricultural sector and infrastructural facilities the district of Bemetara, Raipur, Baloda Bazar and Durg district are found to be better developed as compared to other districts of the state. It was observed from this article, developed districts in the agricultural sector as well as infrastructural sector considered their composite indices less than or equal to 0.52 and 0.65 respectively. Poorly developed districts considered their composite indices greater than or equal to 0.01. Developing districts have their composite indices from 0.28 to 0.51 and 0.47 to 0.64 agricultural and infrastructural respectively.
