Abstract
This article concerns a specific typological group of Archaic
Greek sculpture, the so-called “Apollos and kouroi” (VII–VI c. BC). These statues of youths are connected with the cult of Apollo. The author focuses on the colossal marble statues of the Aegean islands (Delos, Samos, Naksos, Thera) and traces the East-Greek origins of this group. The Anatolian element in the ancient cult of Apollo is also examined.
