Abstract

A simple, sensitive, reliable and rapid RP-HPLC method coupled with PDA detector has been developed for the estimation of Tartrazine (E 102) in food stuffs and tablet dosage form. Determination was performed on phenomenex C18 Gemini column (150×4.6mm) 5μ particle size. The mobile phase 20mM ammonium acetate buffer: acetonitrile: methanol in the ratio of 40:30:30 V/V/V was selected. Isocratic mode of elution was selected. Calibration plots were established showing dependence of response (peak area) on the amount chromatographed. The method has a linear range of 0.2-1mcg/mL. 426nm was selected as wavelength of detection. It is the most effective method for determination of the dye tartrazine in dosage forms.
