Abstract

At present, a lot of research has been done on the presence of adipose tissue in the bone marrow and its effect on the body. As a rule, the influence of fatty tissue is positioned as negative, because, according to scientists, it contributes to the development of osteoporosis, hypoplastic and aplastic anemia, Simmonds-Shien syndrome (hypothalamic-pituitary cachexia). Nevertheless, recent studies by scientists from Michigan have revealed positive functions of adipose tissue in the bone marrow - it is the source of the adiponectin protein, which helps to maintain insulin sensitivity, reduces the risk of developing diabetes and cancer. Also, a protective function for the cardiovascular system was identified and adaptive, which was to avoid negative consequences for patients with anorexia, and also after chemotherapy. However, at present, the function of adipose tissue within the bone marrow is largely unknown.
