Abstract
The twenty six years of economic liberalisation has affected Indian agriculture badly. No doubt, the Indian farming community witnessed green revolution and had enjoyed its benefits a lot, but these remained the luck of only big agriculturists and landlords who own large acres of land where they afford to practise the new and innovative scientific methods of farming. But these big farmers constitute only a small chunk of the total farming community in the country. The position of middle class and poor farmers has actually deteriorated during the last two decades. The three worms- depeasantisation, indebtedness and suicides have eaten up the happiness and prosperity of Indian agriculture. This paper attempts to examine the causes of agrarian crisis in India and also throws light on the remedies to reduce and remove the crisis deeprooted in Indian farming community.
