Abstract
The development of photogrammetry in the early and mid-twentieth century, including cameras, stereo ploters and aircraft has been increased greatly due to the two world wars, and in the following decades by the gain in productivity in large areas of mapping compared to other survey methods. In Brazil it is significant that has closely followed the development that occurred abroad and even has been a pioneer in some surveys with the newest technologies then available. This article presents a brief history of the development of photogrammetry in the world and at the same time you try to connect the facts with the various Brazilian experiences, carried out with the direct participation of public and private entities, mainly throughout the twentieth century. Finally discusses the changes in concepts and paradigms introduced by the new highly automated digital photogrammetry.
