Abstract
Elections are one of the most essential components of the democracy; this also matters in terms of the involvement of the citizens in the governance in a simple and cost-free way. There are different descriptions for the term “election”. One of the descriptions states, “The fellow or the board who will carry out the public service is selected from multiple candidates by the electors” and one other states that “conversion of the choices of electors into chairs”. By the impact of improvement in communication networks, election can be stated as the status of governance of the citizens by themselves. As a natural result of such an effective mission, many different election systems have been developed and being kept developing to convert votes to chairs in the parliament. The election systems that have been applied in all democratic countries can be classified under three main headings; the elections based on the principle of majority, the elections based on the principle of proportional representation and hybrid election system. These three different systems have different results on governments in terms of “stability” and “equality in representation”. In this study, election systems and methods are presented, and then impacts on governments are assessed.
