METHODS FOR DETERMINING THE VOLUME OF ROUND TIMBER

The main influence on the cost of production for cutting round assortments is the cost of sawlogs. The most important factor in determining the volume of round timber is the chosen measurement method. A number of different methods for measuring and determining the volume of round timber have been developed and are being applied. The conducted studies to determine the volume of round timber for diameters 12, 13, and 14 showed that the volume of the same log, when measured by different methods, has deviations, which depend on the diameters in question from 0.1048 to 0.1408 m3. In the process of receiving raw materials, suppliers and buyers of the forest should use the same measurement method, or the independent representative, agreed upon by both parties, taking into account the approved measurement method of the log, should conduct the acceptance.
