In the Oral, Written and Electronic Culture Environment, Transformation from Riddle to Crossword and Quiz Show/ Sözlü, Yazılı ve Elektronik Kültür Ortamlarında Bilmeceden Bulmaca ve Bilgi Yarışmasına Dönüşüm

Cultural products are subject to change over time depending on various reasons. This change can occur in a wide range such as form, content, performance, and function. Indeed, change is an extended process and this process of change may end up with the sustainance of a cultural element in a new form or its absolute disappearance. The most important point in this sense is whether the functionality of certain culture element continues or not. In other words, if any element culture has completed its function and encountered a more powerful alternative to replace it, it is already in the process of change or disappearance. In this respect, the transition of societies from oral culture first to written and then to electronic cultural stag has accelerated the change and transformation of many cultural products. In Turkish culture, the one of the culture products which are subject to change or transformation in particularly functionality is the riddle. Riddle based on the question-answer principle is a traditional oral culture work. This work seen its first written examples in Turkish culture in the 14th century has general functions such as to entertain, to make think and to inform people. Riddle, which had been lived for centuries in the oral culture environment, left these functions to the crossword in the written culture environment and quiz show in the electronic culture environment. In this study, riddles, crossword and quiz show concepts were briefly reviewed in oral, written and electronic culture environment and riddle genre was compared with crossword and quiz show genres. Thus, in the context of cultural transformation, transformation issue from riddle to crossword and quiz show has been tried to discuss.
