Abstract

Influenced by daily life and its sub-disciplined, art has transformed itself over the years. Especially, painting, sculpture, music, theatre, literature and dance have impacted on one another through new rules and styles. This influence has brought about such art movements as romantism, naturalism, realism, impressionism, futurism, fauvism expressionism and Dadaism, all of which have stemmed from the notions spearheaded by certain artists or critics. What aristocracy thought about art was rather important as it was these rich people who appreciated art and artists. Unlike this situation, hip-hop has been the only artistic culture that thrived among common people in the streets. It involves breakdance, graffiti, rap music and being a DJ, all of which are pillars of hip-hop. This study aims to explore the relationship between rap and graffiti, two of the main components of hip-hop culture. The reflections of rap and graffiti and rap in today's art movements and their influence on other disciplines of art are the main focus to be analyzed in this study.
