THE EFFECTS OF COOPERATIVE LEARNING ON EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS’ METACOGNITIVE SKILLS

Abstract
Cooperative learning method was used in this study so as to ensure students' metacognitive skills. Sampling group of the research consist of 74 students studying in 8th grade in primary school. The students selected as control and experiment group have done the activities prepared by the researcher and studies have been applied. The units of “Genetic” and “Reproduction and development of organisms” have been taught with lesson plan prepared by the researcher by using traditional method to the students of control group, on the other hand, the same units have been taught by the cooperative learning method prepared by the researcher to experiment group. Survey of Metacognitive Skills has been applied to both groups' pre and post-test. For group in expected level and a remarkable difference has occurred compared to control group. No change in terms of Metacognitive Skills has been seen in any group at the end of the applications lasting about four months.
