STUDENT`S PERCEIVED ROLE IN SCHOOL REALITY

Abstract
Low satisfaction with school expressed by Estonian students has inspired the author to ask what is the influence of everyday school conditions upon young people's world of experiences. The author concentrates on the question how students perceive the school institution's attitude to them and discusses about educational effects of these attitudes. Theoretical background of the approach is in existential phenomenology and its conception of man whose being actualises through different situations. Connected with that the part of the question mentioned above is: How cares the forming person about his or her being in school situations? The students' reflections how they are valuated by school were studied using semi-structured open questions. The research was focusing to the questions how is own meaning to the school perceived and how does school notice student as a subject. The answers were analyzed by phenomenological experience-studying method. The research results showed that school attitudes to students instrumentally and superficially.
It was found that students perceive that the school sees them first of all as role fulfillers and that they cannot trust school in problems connected with them as human beings. Students, however, perceive that they have a certain amount of opportunities to change school as well.
