Abstract
The article deals with the study of publishing activities of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 1951–1955. We have characterized the early 1950s publishing activities state within the context of the socio-political situation of Ukraine, its material, technical and human resources support. In the publication we have examined the membership, structure and activities of the editorial-and-publishing board of the Academy of Sciences and have analyzed the problem issues such as the absence of control over the manuscripts preparation at the stage of editing and submission to the Publishing House, low printing and decoration of editions quality, undeveloped system of academic editions distribution etc. We have deduced that the formation of four separate sections for branches of knowledge in the Board structure, implementation of obligatory internal and external reviewing of manuscripts prepared for publication, gradual transition to a more dynamic publication form – a magazine have positively influenced the publishing process. This made it possible to enhance the quantity rate of publications, improve the efficiency of academic Publishing House activity and considerably expand the scope of the editions distribution.
