Abstract

Disturbances of lungs ventilation due to prolonged exposure of industrial dust, which is represented by foundry aerosols such as SO2, both obstructive and restrictive (ОTVD and RTVD) lead to a significant deterioration in the quality of life and disability. The timely detection of these disorders is a significant complication due to the weak manifestation of clinical symptoms and requires further search for criteria and methods for measuring the early metabolic changes. The timely detection of these disorders has significant complexity due to the insignificant manifestation of clinical symptoms and requires further searching of criteria and methods for assessing the early metabolic shifts. The study involved people who contact with high dust concentration of foundry aerosols and SO2. Among them are: 107 practically healthy persons, 101 persons with obstructive type of ventilation disorders (OTVD) due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and 41 persons with restructive type of ventilation disorders (RTVD), which is caused by diffuse pneumatic fibrosis. The state of lipid peroxidation (LPO) and antioxidant protection (AOP) systems of foundry industry workers was analyzed. The indices reflecting the state of the initial, intermediate and final stages of the LPO were studied: serum chemiluminescence with Fe2+ (spontaneous and total), (CHLFe2+sp., CHLFe2+t.), diene conjugates (DC), malonic dialdehyde (MDA), as well as indices, antioxidant protection systems: chemiluminescence of serum loaded with hydrogen peroxide (CHLН2О2sp., CHLН2О2t.) and activity of ceruloplasmin (CP) as blood serum antioxidants. The obtained results indicate that the changes in groups with a lung ventilation disorder have different characteristics: when the intensity of the stages of LPO-AOP was increased (patients with OTVD), the compensatory mechanisms were not effective, the velocity of the final stages of LPO was increased, spontaneous Fe2+ aggressive lipid hydroperoxide products and MDA were accumulated, antioxidant protection increase of the XLH2O2sp., XLH2O2t and increase of ceruloplasmin level in blood serum were recorded. As for persons with RTVD, the shifting of LPO was recorded only on CHLFe2+t.
