Abstract
New materials with cement are constantly being experimented in the world by the researchers to improve the properties of the concrete. Coconut shell charcoal (CSC) can be one of those material. Coconut shell charcoal is added in the concrete and mortar samples in 10%, 15%, 20% and 30% by the weight of the cement. To check the strength properties experimental investigations like abrasion test, compressive strength, and drop weight impact test were conducted on the coconut shell charcoal concrete. To assess the durability of the concrete Nacl, MgSO4, marine water test and wet and dry cycle test were also performed. From the experimental test it is concluded that strength did not increases with CSC addition but it decreases with the addition of coconut shell charcoal only after 10% addition of CSC. However abrasion resistance and durability were improved to some extent. Ultrasonic pulse velocity test were also conducted and it shows that sample were homogenous in nature.
