Abstract
Silica is one of the strongest substances causing autoimmune dysfunction. Silicosis has said to have been associated with several auto immune disorders like Rheumatoid arthritis, Systemic lupus erythematosis, Systemic sclerosis and small vessel vasculitidies like Wegeners granulomatosis.1 Bramwell first described the occurrence of systemic sclerosis in Scottish stonemasons.2 In mid 1950s Erasmus reported the increased occurrence of systemic sclerosis in the white South African gold miners.3 Thus the coincidence of Systemic sclerosis with silicosis is termed as Erasmus syndrome. We report one such case of systemic sclerosis associated with silicosis. The case is being reported for the rarity of its association.
