A Rare Case of Mature Teratoma in the Oblique Fissure of Right Lung

Abstract
We report a case of 22 years old male, admitted with complaints of breathlessness, right sided chest pain of 1 year duration and haemoptysis of 3 days duration. He was diagnosed outside as a case of right sided pleural effusion and treated with intercostal tube drainage. On admission his vitals were stable. His Chest x-ray showed homogenous opacity in right mid and lower zones,with loss of silhouette of right cardiac border and right hemidiaphragm. CT-scan chest showed 11cm 7 cm well defined hypodense lesion with internal septations,showing contrast enhancement of the wall in right paracardiac region. Our provisional diagnosis included 1) mature teratoma 2) hydatid cyst 3) pleuro pericardial cyst. We planned for surgery and via right posterolateral thoracotomy, excision of the cyst measuring 11.5cm 3.5cm 3cm in the Oblique fissure of Right Lung was done. Histopathological examination reported as Mature Teratoma with cyst wall in Oblique fissure of Right Lung.
