Abstract
In the early 20-ies in Ukraine, a number of scientific˗research departments were created, since public education institutions were intended only for the training of teachers of schools and employees of social education institutions. They did not have a task to prepare scholars. The article describes the work of the scientific- research department in pedagogy at the Kharkiv Institute of Public Education and analyzes the work of the reflexology section in it. Reorganization of the higher education system significantly influenced the development of science in higher educational institutions, the formation of a new scientific elite, directions and the methods of scientific researches. The scientific-research department in pedagogy became the center of pedagogical thought. All research staff worked in the central pedagogical institutions, methodical committees and journals. The works of the scientists of the department attracted attention and were well known abroad. Among the issues that the reflexology section had to develop, were the following: the study of the mechanisms of behavior of the person, specifically, the study of mechanisms of the motor sphere of the body, the mechanisms of concentration reaction (attention) and hypnoid state. Also, the section planned to work on the questions of "laboratory" and "natural" experiment, problems of organization of the experiment in school.
