Abstract
The article is devoted to the description of the archaeologist and ethnographer N.A. Marx's scientific activities in the North-West Black Sea Region and republication of his two papers – the book «On the History of Bender Fortress» and the legend «Bender Plate». Moreover, the authors describe and analyze the artifacts of Bender Fortress published by N.A. Marx: a marble slab with the inscription (tarikh) of Sultan Suleiman I the Magnificent (1538) and an Ottoman Iznik plate, which had been mounted on the wall above the entrance to the citadel of the fortress and described in 1657 by the famous Turkish traveler Evliya Celebi.
