Abstract
Introduction. Monograph «Biology of Diffuse Endocrine Epithelial System», written by V. V. Yahlov, I. A. Mikhailyuk, N. V. Yahlova considers the structure and functioning of the diffuse endocrine system, which is an important component of the endocrine system of humans and animals, and is represented by the single receptor-endocrine cells located in the epithelium of the mucous membranes of the organs of the digestive, respiratory, genitourinary systems, and also in the skin. Aim. To make a review on monograph of V. V. Yahlov, I. A. Mikhailuk, N. V. Yahlova “Biology of Diffuse Endocrine Epithelial System”. Materials and methods. The rewiev of the monograph of V. V. Yahlov, I. A. Mikhailuk, N. V. Yahlova “Biology of the Diffuse Endocrine Epithelial System” was made. A detailed analysis of work by the sections was conducted, a professional evaluation of the results of many years of scientific research of authors was given, as well as formulated their own views on the prospects for further research in this field. Results. Another name of the cells of the diffuse endocrine system is the APUD-series. The abbreviation shows the ability of these cells to accumulate precursors of biologically active amines, which decarboxylation turns into the biogenic amines and peptide hormones that are involved in organ regulation, tissue nutrition and cell proliferation. The functionally diffuse endocrine system interacts with peptidergic neurons and immune system cells, which together act as a single system of primary response and protection of the organism. The monograph ” Biology of the Diffuse Endocrine Epithelial System” outlines the results of many years of research of the diffuse endocrine system study, as well as formulating own views of the authors on the prospects of the further research in this field. The results of the research are illustrated with high-quality microphotographs. The list of used literature contains mainly editions of 70-80-ies of the last century. Despite this, recently a number of new reports on cells of the diffuse endocrine system and their role in the pathological processes have been published in foreign publications. Violations of the structurally functional organization of individual units of the diffuse endocrine system and, as a result, hyperproduction or insufficiency of peptide hormones or biogenic amines may appear in the complex of symptoms that form certain clinical syndromes – apodopathies. The information provided may be useful for the specialists in the field of practical medicine, as well as a perspective ground for further research. Conclusions. The monograph “Biology of the Diffuse Endocrine Epithelial System” fully reflects the results of many years of research of the diffuse endocrine system, the authors' own views, which are of great value for the specialists in the field of practical medicine.
