Abstract
The electrical equipment such as power transformer during its operational life is subjected to different degradation mechanisms and failure modes due to various internal stresses such as aging of their insulation systems and external stresses such as electrical stresses (lightening surges, switching over voltages, earth faults) and nonelectrical stresses (corrosion and pollution of its outer surface). Hence, condition assessment of power transformer is required to avoid or minimize the premature failure. One such method is health indexing which is being used by various utilities as it presents the degradation condition of power transformer such that the asset owners can choose between the replacement and maintenance of the power transformer. This paper describes certain case studies of power transformers in a fleet to obtain the health condition mathematically and a graphical user interface (GUI) based on MATLAB is designed. It also compares both the HI values obtained from mathematical calculation and GUI.
