Abstract

In this work classical Maxwell's equations with complex wave number are used to related absorption coefficient to the conductivity and refractive index. Treating electrons as strings the absorption coefficient is shown to be inversely related to the atomic number and directly related to the oxidation number. The experimental work in which the absorption spectra of ????????, ????????, ????????, ????????????????????oxides is in agreement with this theoretical relation.
