DETERMINATION OF FINANCIAL LITERACY LEVELS OF HEALTH PERSONNEL WORKING IN HOSPITALS AFFILIATED TO THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH: SIVAS PROVINCE EXAMPLE

Abstract

This research was conducted in order to determine the level of financial literacy of health professionals. Increasing the level of financial literacy will help individuals to make better financial decisions and thus to achieve financial welfare. This study is a descriptive and cross-sectional study. The sample of this research was calculated using the program "Raosoft" (www.raosoft.com) (N = 2750). A sample of 343 health personnel was included in the study by simple random sampling method. Data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 22.00 program. Comparisons were performed by using Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis, and Frequency tests. Participants' financial literacy levels were examined in terms of different demographic characteristics. As a result of the study, financial literacy achievement score was determined as 60%. Male health worker' achievement scores were found to be higher than those of women. Variables such as income level, education level, cadre title were found to be influential on financial literacy level. The area in which health care staff were the most successful was “retirement and insurance (78%)” while the most unsuccessful area was "investment (37%)”. In addition, the information on the financial agenda was found to be less.
