Abstract
Following Bulgaria's accession to the European Union, the market presence and influence of European commerce in Bulgaria is expanding. The investments in the sector increase. This results in a number of positive effects contributing to the improvement and modernization of commerce, which leads to an increase in revenue and profit. On the other hand, the commerce effectiveness tested on profit basis shows unstable development. This objectively allows the author to develop the thesis that, despite the growth of investment and the improvement of commerce in Bulgaria, during the years of EU membership, the effects from the modernization do not determine an increasing effectiveness of commerce.
