Spirituality and Search for Meaning in the Workplace

Lacking spiritual elements, new life style of modern society and materialist business logic necessiated by excessive competition result in an unspiritual and soul-damaging work atmosphere. This situation causes a search for meaning in private and work lives of employees and gives birth to efforts to make sense of their works and private lives. Workplace spirituality and spiritual leadership style that has its roots in positive psychology can be considered as organizational approaches that can answer this search for meaning. These approaches nourishes cooperation, progression and meaningfullness and contributes to efficient and healthy organizations rather than machivallian organizations that demotivates and oppresses employees. In this study, the search for meaning of modern employee will be examined and the effects of workplace spirituality and spiritual leadership and their positive contributions on search for meaning at the organizational level will be handled in details. Moreover, in our study, spirituality will be addressed as a more comprehensive spiritual approach independent from religion.
